Some films I have watched recently

Du Levande- Roy Andersson

Amazing collection of humorous insights into people's daily lives, with a touch of Monty Pythonesque style and a blend of the every day mundane and otherworldly escapism.

Etre et Avoir- Nicholas Philibert

Documentary about an academic year at a small school in rural France. Very moving, touching. Unembellished style, a sense of ease between subject and filmmaker is apparent.

Summer Hours (L'Heure D'Ete)- Olivier Assayas

Dialogue-driven film about the disintegration of a family's history when the mother dies and the three children are left with her estate. Slow moving, thoughtful work, reminded me of reading Chekov's Three Sisters.

Cinema Paradiso- Tornatore
